Fitted wardrobes

We are looking to buy a new house and have seen a few that are very dated but have lots of potential. Is it difficult and costly to remove fitted wardrobes, or is it a relatively easy job?

We have seen a house that we like but every bedroom has those old fashioned wardrobes with the bed in the middle. If we were to buy the house, we would want to rip them out and start again.

They are usually cheap fibre board. Not difficult to remove, but a lot of making good afterwards.. we've always bought "doer uppers",so we weren't phased, our last house,we had them, but they were actually wooden..old fashioned yes, the original wood colour, DH made redundant several times,no spare money,so he painted them and added trim. The bit where the bed went,we had as a knee hole desk and put the bed opposite.

Where we are now,DH removed doors first, then the top, then sides,he unscrewed carefully.

I wouldn't mind painting them if the quality was decent , but these would definitely need to come out. I was wondering if the walls would all need to be replastered as I imagine the wall would look a bit of a mess
