Chimney re-flaunching and capping

We had the cap of the chimney come off (not sure what's the correct technical term for this!) with the wind last week and a closer look showed that it needs re-flaunching. I had a couple of quotes one for £850 and mother for £250 and given that these figures are miles aways i just want to check what we should expect! Anyone done similar work recently and can advise on pricing?

I would guess the £850 guy will use scaffolding and the £250 is happy to do it from ladders. Scaffolding is expensive.

Agree. We have been quoted £1300 Inc vat for repointing and redoing the flaunching plus a new cowl as we have scaffolding up at the moment for the roof but he reckons the scaffolding just for that job is over £1k.

The £850 quote is without scaffolding. We have a flat roof for a small extension at the back so access is not an issue! I take it that's someone who is taking advantage then! 😳
