How much are removal costs?

Back in 2021 we paid £3,500 to move a three bed house 15 miles. Admittedly we had a huge amount of stuff (three trips in their Luton van although third was only half full). We didn’t use their packaging service.

Does anyone know if the cost has gone up or down and what we could expect to pay?

AI gives me much cheaper quotes than what I paid before. This could be AI being wrong or maybe prices were high because of the 2021 housing boom.

It depends on where you live, how far you are going, and how much stuff you have.

We paid £1500, including packing, for a 4 bed local move. Re rejected the quote under 1k (there was a chance DH wouldn't be around, and I didnt want to be alone in the house with the guy) and laughed in the face of the 7k quote.

Unless you have seriously decluttered, I reckon with wages and fuel, prices will have increased.

We had variable quotes last year for a fairly big 3 bed house. The company we had used 12 year previously was astronomically expensive. We plumbed for the cheapest at £2800. That was just moving not packing. They then sold us boxes for £250.

We’ve just had a £6,300 quote for a full gold plated service (packing and unpacking)

Moved 3 miles 18 months ago. 3 Luton vans
. Packed ourselves. £1500

End of last year I paid £4500. This was to pack a 3 bed house, store it all for 3 weeks then move 200 miles and unpack at the end.

£2100 for packing and moving 2 bed. SE

£800 moved 10 miles. One luton van’s worth. I packed myself. The two men loaded and unloaded the van. I live in Cheshire.

£3500 to move a 3 bedroom house 15 miles in 2021 without packing is incredibly expensive. Even 5 years later you should be able to pay far less than that.

In 2024 we paid £1400 to move 10 miles from a 3
bed to a 4 bed. That was for a 2 van and 3 man service. That was in the south of the UK too, so by no means a cheap area.

£2500 for packing and moving 3 bed <20 miles this month. No unpacking but all furniture reassembled.

It depends how far you are moving.

Nearly three years ago I paid £600 to move a few miles but I only had one largish van.

Declutter ruthlessly so you can minimise how many vans you need. Plan to take some things in your car.

We have just moved about 5 miles away. Two bed house and we hired a Luton van with tail lift as well as a sack barrow for a day and a half for about £140. We did it in 2 trips, and packed one van load the day before, but it was very stressful as we had to empty on the drive of the new house to collect the next load as we didn't yet have keys. It saved us tons of money but we were lucky with lots of people to help and good weather
