Vaguely thinking of moving, place we like needs some work, its up for 525k. we have 400k cash and would get about 350k cash from selling up.not sure if possible to get a short term low mortgage as pension income and self employed income is appx 10k. any thoughts....Don't want to live through building work again and dont want to rent short term while work is done and other place is sold, could we get a interest only mortgage and clear it when funds come through from current house sale..??

Have you tried talking to your bank or a mortgage broker about borrowing £100k for a year? See what they can offer.

My friend tried to do that and was refused because her income was not enough to pay back a mortgage. The bank wasn't interested in the fact that it could all be paid back when her house sold. She might have got a loan against her present house, but with huge interest.
Have you looked into buying or renting a self-contained lodge/static caravan and living in that in the garden of your new place? At least it would be relatively easy to keep clean during the building work.
