I am hating looking for a house

I have criteria, they are not being met in houses that are still available, the ones I like go too fast 🙄

I've been waiting 2 days for info about a house from an estate agent only to find it by myself on the internet

Estate agents are sending me "early notifications" of houses that have been on right move for up to 24 hours

I get its a me problem and i'm just whinging

Have you got an alert set up in RM? What about OnTheMarket?

KatyMac · 17/03/2026 19:21

Alerts on rm
Do onthemarket do alerts? Off to check

Zoopla send so much crap I turned it off

Me too.

Local estate agents keep emailing me about houses that aren’t where I said I was interested in.

And not much happens on the market, it’s so dull.

KatyMac · 17/03/2026 19:41

sympathies @AdjacentPossible

registered with onthemarket thanks @Fast800goingforit

Try geoglider.com if you want to super-charge your search. You can enter all kinds of weird and whacky search criteria.

You get a few free searches per month.

KatyMac · 18/03/2026 08:17

Oo that looks interesting- it has price history too

It hasn't mentioned limiting your searches (yet) but I have access to 4 phones so fingers crossed thats enough

Thanks

Are you following the estate agents on Instagram and Tiktok? Apparently some will post a listing on social media before they do it anywhere else

nonmerci99 · 18/03/2026 12:41

Right there with you… where we are looking (Glasgow) there are few properties that tick our boxes and the good ones sell very quickly for a huge amount over the valuation. It’s really grim!

KatyMac · 18/03/2026 19:11

No i have a few on fb and one that regularly advertises but when you click it can't find the page!

I'll have a look ok ig

Sympathy OP, house moving in general is just absolutely pants.
We had a very, very specific area that we wanted (/needed really), and not a lot of houses there. So I was checking Rightmove constantly, and the minute one can up I was on the phone to the selling agent. We also sold the last property first so we’re not in a chain. That made us more attractive to sellers, and therefore not likely to be pipped to the post.

Other than that, I have no helpful advice. Took us ages but the right one came up.

Hellohelga · 18/03/2026 22:04

Ignore EA emails, they will send you any old shit that doesn’t match your criteria. Just look at RM every day and sort by newest. Are you proceedable?

KatyMac · 20/03/2026 07:42

We got an email from one estate agent 2 hours after we'd booked an appointment with them!

Got our eyes on a house, seeing it today - fingers crossed

Good luck OP! We are in the same position. Been 18 months now 😞

Melarus · 20/03/2026 08:19

Good luck today, hope it works out for you!

redboxer321 · 20/03/2026 08:23

Don't ever tell an estate agent you want a garden. All you'll get is links to top floor flats.
Don't set a budget. That's nice, you'll think when you open a link. Ah, it's £800k and my budget is considerably less.
And so on...
Not much fun house hunting.

Thanks guys

Nervous and busy googling annexes!! Is annex (singular) spelt annex or annexe?

The correct spelling doesn't matter. It only matters how the EA spells it. Try searching for "accomodation". You'll find properties costing millions being sold in Sussex by EA's without a spellchecker or care in the world.

changedusername190 · 20/03/2026 10:11

It’s worth a look at multi generational living as that’s another way of finding an annexe.

FloorLamp · 20/03/2026 11:47

Onthemarket sometimes lists property up to 24/48 hours before it hits Rightmove I've noticed...worth noting!

KatyMac · 20/03/2026 12:23

Multigenerational doesnt come up as a keyword and neither does granny flat 🙄

Annexe is only spelt this way

They need to work on their keywords
