My bathroom tap is not turning on and making grinding noises...Is it dead?

our sink hot tap is knackered. i thought it was just low water pressure but all the other taps are fine. the water was just trickling rather than flowing.

i unscrewed the top and had a look and a fiddle with a scredriver and made it a bit worse, as per usual with my diy. the screw just turns round with the tap, rather than turning it on and off and makes a horrid grinding noise.

any ideas? something simple like a new washer or do i need a plumber?

thanks

Try a new washer first. Could make all the difference.

thing is, there is no sign of a washer in it, does that mean it has worn away or am i looking in the wrong place?

Oh we have the same with out hot tap at the moment. My dad said change the washer, but taps are ancient so we are replacing taps next weekend and for the moment taking 2 hours to run a blardy bath!

julezboo, i know, it's desperate isn't it? i think i may have to "get a man in" to have a look..
