Issues with Estate Agent

Hi, can anyone point me in the right direction on how and who to make a complaint with regarding an estate agent listing my property on their Company website before i had approved the listing? This agent is regulated by Propertymark.

I was not happy with some of the wording they had put in the brochure and in the process of this being rectified little did i know they had gone ahead anyway and uploaded the listing on their website including the wording that needed changing. I had no idea that they had done this until a reliable source alerted me to it.

I have withdrawn from the agent and the listing was removed by them straight away. They told me it was a mistake and they should of removed it from the website straight away during the approval process. They shouldn't have had the listing up in the first place!

Anyway i just wondered if anyone else has had a similar thing happen to them and whether i can make a complaint? I am looking to instruct another estate agent and i don't want any implications down the line because of their mistake listing it.

Estate agents aren’t regulated. Have you made a formal complaint to the estate agent itself?

If your property’s been listed on Rightmove then regardless of whose fault that was, Rightmove’s rules about whether or not a new listing can appear as “new” will apply.

Estate agents are mainly shit and do what they want and lie about it if they have to. If you find a good one, stick with them.

You can complain to the estate agent but what do you expect to achieve here? They have corrected the mistake as per your instructions. It's a pretty minor administrative error which they have now resolved.

Hi OP,
Ok, the agent put the details 'live' before they were signed off, that's not on but probably happens frequently, or if they are an agency with integrity it was a genuine mistake. They apologised. They have let you out of your contract without penalty.

I really feel you are over reacting here. What was so catastrophic in the details that will impact potential viewings going forward?
Most people look at floor plans and pictures they don't read much of what is written on first glance.

Are you stressed about selling? otherwise something else is going on because this is an extreme reaction.

You’re overreacting

Boymumma2018 · 13/03/2026 16:48

Complaining for complainings sake is such a waste of energy. It was an error, they’ve removed it. Move on to another agent and hopefully you’ll be happier with the service there. Maybe the wording was their recommendation with them being the experts??

Very annoying. Putting your house on the market is stressful- but they admitted their mistake, apologised?
if you don’t let this go and calm down you’re not going to make it through the whole process without a breakdown
