What colour paint for new loft room?

Hoping for some views! We're in the process of doing a loft extension - master ensuite. We've chosen these tiles for the bathroom (around the shower) https://www.originalstyle.com/ci-000118-eden.html?colour=hothouse and will paint the bathroom walls in either Farrow and Ball Purbeck Stone or Pigeon - both seem to go well with the tiles.

I'd like the bedroom to have some form of continuity with the bathroom, but think either of those colours might be overpowering.

One idea I had was to just paint the wardrobes in Pigeon then have a lighter colour on the walls, but not sure what colour. The F&B shop recommended Ammonite, but I find it a bit drab. I really want a calm and serene space. It's a south facing room and will have lots of light from a big floor to ceiling window. The carpet will be oatmeal/light grey to match the stairs and landing (Wevet and Purbeck Stone). Furniture (apart form the wardrobes) will be light oak. Brass fittings.

Any ideas very welcome as I'm driving myself mad overthinking this!

Getting the green from the tiles colour matched would be lovely. Not overpowering at all.

Can you do that? Take the tiles somewhere and get them to match it??

Yep, Homebase used to. I expect B&Q do. They scan an item.

Used to be an advert for it with a woman picking up a child's dropped toy and walking off with it so she could take it and have it matched as the perfect colour!

I had no idea! That’s great for the bathroom thank you. Not sure I’d want that colour all over the bedroom though - it’s quite strong

Is it strong? The bit circled is a very pale green that would look lovely throughout I think. But then I have a terrible aversion to anything neutral!

I too would get the green. It doesn't need to be as dark as the tiles you could just have a paler version of the same green. We've been renovating for 4yrs and even when we started, grey was out.

We are currently working out what colours for our bedroom/en-suite etc also. Brewers do peel and stick colours and they are only 85p per sample. Other brands do them, but they cost more. I'm thinking about the seaford green, but could also get it colour matched in another brand if wanted.

I also would choose green. It's such a calming, soothing colour but not a boring grey or greige or cream.
I've been having a look. Obviously there are millions of greens. This might be close to what I would choose if I had those tiles. Probably not the exact right one but something like it. The tiles are gorgeous, by the way! 😍

Gosh, how are people not getting tired of the green? It looks nice but it seems to be in every single room these days.

OP we have Purbeck Stone in the loft master bedroom, just painted it a few weeks ago. It sits beautifully and it’s not at all overpowering. Quite happy with the choice.

Never tired of green. Colour of plants, leaves, trees and grass.
Very tired of grey, colour of grey skies, grey days, bruises, depression.

I'd find the exact colour mstch for the green, then go two shades lighter but same pigment, if that makes sense. Green bedrooms are very soothing.

I have a bathroom and a bedroom in the loft, too (guest, not master, but it's irrelevant :) ). The bathroom is Ammonite with pale blue tiles and beige terrazzo floor, and the bedroom is Cornforth White. The landing is Pavillion Grey (was already there when we bought the house, so I chose the colours to coordinate with it).The floorboards are painted white, so are the doors and skirting. Cornforth White is a light taupe, looks great with natural linen and oak.

That’s a good point! Sick of the bloody rain and grey skies 🤣

Falcon1 · 06/03/2026 16:24

Yes, I started off thinking green but then DH announced 'I'm not sure I want a green bedroom' and I was worried it might clash with the stairs/landing...and around in circles I go!

I have just seen that I can’t send images in private messages. I assumed you could but no luck unless I’m missing something. Sorry I won’t post publicly but if you want to PM me an email address or a WhatsApp I’d be happy to send them to you that way.
