Hi all,
We live in a 3 year old new build property. We had a water softener fitted on the house today and what should have been pretty straight forward turned out to be a complete disaster.
The plummer turned off the water using the stopcock under the sink, but when cutting into the pipework he claims the stopcock blew off and subsequently mains water came flooding into our house. He is claiming that the stopcock was fitted incorrectly and was only connected to the mains pipe at a depth of 3cm rather than 6cm.
We have called our insurance company who have said they will send out a surveyor but we are not covered for faulty workmanship. We have obviously contacted the developer too and they have advised we need to get a damage report from the Plummer.
I guess the question is where do we stand? Who is liable? The Plummer or the house builder? It’s looking like our insurance won’t cover it but it’s a lot of damage to the flooring and kitchen
