Do you have a sofa that doesn’t sag?

If so, where did you get it?

I don’t mind spending a fair amount on a new sofa as hopefully it’ll be something we keep for ages.

My last sofa was from sofa.com and it looks great when it’s all plumped up but it needs re-plumping constantly.

We’ve got an Ercol one that’s hard as a rock.I long for something soft and squishy

SoScarletItWas · 05/03/2026 17:31

We’ve got two of these, Zinc from DfS. Had them a few years and they are so comfy. I hardly ever plump the cushions, no sag, lovely comfortable support.

I have the dfs Woodstock range and they haven't sagged. I think they're sponge based?? Firm but squidgy

catlife7 · 05/03/2026 17:34

Replace the cushion inner? I used a company that supplied foam and my sofa feels like new

ThatGreenFawn · 05/03/2026 17:35

Ours are more than 8 years old (we've had them 8 years and bought them second hand).
They are Chesterfield leather sofas and dont sag and are still so comfy.

Fingalscave · 05/03/2026 17:35

Yes, it's a G Plan. A bit old fashioned looking but comfort is more important! It's coming up to 20 years old and like new. It's used daily.

Mercurial123 · 05/03/2026 17:36

Mine is West Elm. No sagging it's great.

1980isitjustme · 05/03/2026 17:36

Have a look at Sits sofas. The one I have is comfy but retains its shape.

Sprig1 · 05/03/2026 17:40

Sofas and stuff. 15yo and as good as new.

MrsLizzieDarcy · 05/03/2026 17:40

If yours is sagging, you've likely got broken springs underneath or they've come away from the rail. They're either called zig zag or serpentine springs, and a local upholsterer can sort this out. Once one goes, the others will follow and it's worth getting them all done as the springs aren't expensive and the labour cost is getting to them. (in the trade).

FirstDayonthePlanet · 05/03/2026 17:57

I second the zinc from dfs.
We had (and still have) them in the back room, i bought a gorgeous aesthetic (expensive) sofa for the front room, it was so uncomfortable we sold it at a huge loss on marketplace and replaced with zincs in a different colour. Had both sets years now, no sagging.

Buscobel · 05/03/2026 18:37

Have a look at Darlings of Chelsea. They have other showrooms as well as Chelsea and on line of course. They have a vast range of fabrics and their customer service is good.

Alouest · 05/03/2026 18:39

IKEA Ektorp. Bought in 2005. Still going strong.

UniversityofWarwick · 05/03/2026 19:13

I have a 12 year old DFS sofa. No sagging whatsoever (even though my dd likes jumping on it!)

hellofrommyothername · 05/03/2026 19:20

Thanks for the suggestions everyone I will look at these!

I’m not getting rid of the old one but have moved to a place with an additional living room which needs to be furnished.

I have a DFS one. Can't remember the model but it's coming up 10 years and hasn't sagged at all. The cushions are foam.

thedevilinablackdress · 05/03/2026 20:58

I've a Duresta sofa that's over 20 years old and barely sagging. Beginning to think it'll outlive me.

House4DS · 05/03/2026 21:09

Another vote for a DFS one.
The three seater sagged a bit but the 2 seater is still going strong comfort-wise after 21+ years, 3 kids and 2 dog. Bit faded but so comfy. I dread changing it.

Silverbirchleaf · 05/03/2026 21:11

We have a Parker Knoll sofa from a local independent store. Wasn’t cheap, but we hope it will last.

Apparently an average sofa lasts 7-15 years.

IKEA Ektorp. Bought in 2005. Still going strong.

The old ones were great. The new ones are very poor, we have an Ektorp armchair less than 6 months old and I wouldn't recommend at all, the filling is very cheap now

Meadowfinch · 06/03/2026 13:10

I have two I bought in Multiyork in 2002. Both still rock solid. They have removeable covers so easy to clean too. They cost quite a lot, I think £1,050 each, 25 years ago, but worth it.

We have G Plan electric recliners. They are not beautiful but practical and very comfortable. I think they look about a year old despite being 9 years old. The seat cushions are perfect and Dh is a 6'3" rugby player weighing in at 17 stone. It is the fabric where your back goes that gives it away because they are not identical anymore. We have a 2 seater and a 3 seater but both have 2 cushions so the 3 seater gives a wider seat which is where Dh and I sit.

I think I will get it recovered next year, the frame is solid.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/03/2026 13:23

ive got a DFS glow. It’s sagged in one place but it’s where I always sit. It’s 7 years old and otherwise looks great.

I am planning to get ours done in a couple of years. My aunt had hers done and it looks fantastic. They are such good quality.

SesameLeafChomper · 06/03/2026 13:26

@Fingalscave I am glad yours has lasted that long, it gives me confidence in mine. The quality has been amazing. I am just tired of the colour of them now. Usually my sofas are dead at the 5 year mark Grin
