What colour walls?

I can’t decide what colour to paint my living room walls. I’m having a platinum coloured carpet, navy sofas and blue patterned curtains. Any suggestions welcome, thanks.

Is that the curtain pattern? I'd have one of the blues or greens mixed to match. Either the middle blue or the olive green.

But it's very personal. I hate white or any kind of neutral walls and always want colour everywhere. If you want a neutral then there's probably loads that would go to.

Yes, that’s my curtains.

It sounds like you’ll have a lot of blue things so I’d go for a pale green for the walls.

How about a wide verticle striped wallpaper with cream and either a blue or a green?

Grey carpet sounds very cold. Warm neutral would be better with the colours you’re describing…

StrangePond · 13/02/2026 22:55

It sounds as if it lacks warmth. I’d paint the walls the warm sand colour from your curtain.

Flukingflukes · 13/02/2026 23:03

Yes I’m thinking sandy coloured but I wasn’t sure.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.

Agree that it sounds heavily cool toned, so you'll have to be careful with creams etc. Dulux polished pebble might be a neutral to check out, it's an old MN classic and a soft grey based paint. Or cornflower white if you want to really lean into the blue tones.

Fashion is trending more towards warmer tones (albeit often still with grey undertones) at the moment though. If that is of concern to you (there's no need to listen to fashion, obviously!), I'd change the carpet to at least a greige and look at something like Egyptian Cotton for the walls. It's a lovely greige-y neutral with some greeny undertones (but not so green that your sofa wouldn't go).
