Date a house was built?

Hi, does anyone here know how I can find out when a house was built? Dh and I are looking at a house that features on an 1883 map, but can find no reference to it before that date.
Where could we look?
Online would be best!

Title deed at Landregistry should show the various schanges of ownership adn use but may nto go back that far . Otherwise census information will give you an idea as to when people were recorded as living there but you may need to go to a library for that detail.
