How can I find out who the private landlord is for a particular property?

Anyone know if there is a way of finding out the name and address of a private landlord? I've just checked the Land Registry site and they want £20 for a search. Is there a cheaper/ free way?

Why do you need to know, I'm curious? The Council Tax office will know, but won't tell you because of data protection. Is it let through an agent at all? They will be the ones to get in contact with, as they will be able to contact the owner for you.

No Agent AFAIK.

Being woken up every weekend by an endlessly barking dog belonging to the new tenant 2 doors down. She's ignored a request via the council to stop it so I'd like to try her landlord.

Do an online search on the Land Reg and it only costs £3. Persist with the council environmental health people - they will probably be a lot more effective than an absentee landlord especially if the tenant pays rent on time and gives him no bother.

Are you in Scotland? If so I can give you a link.

As scaryteacher has said council tax will know but can't give you the details.

But if you rang me when I worked for them and explained the situation, I would get you to write a letter to the owner and put that in an envelope marked for them, enclose it in a letter to the council tax department and I would forward it for you.

I assume by "the council" you mean enviromental health? I would contact them again, keep a diary of events so that you have evidence.

Yes I've been keeping a record of times etc and will be sending it to Environmental Health tomorrow.

(Might try that Fizzy, thanks)
