I am looking to move from london and was considering market harborough or Kettering both of which are communtable to london. I've visited both Market harborough which is lovely picturesque but not racially diverse at all so worry about this where as kettering is but doesn't seem as nice as MH. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions welcome

I live in Northampton and can’t believe you have a dilemma between MH or Kettering. Bluntly, Kettering in a dump and MH is lovely, with some nice villages nearby.

The only reason we would go to Kettering is for the railway station, we would never venture into “town”

MH has some good shops like Mint Velvet,White Company and Space NK, but also has some good independents, including a fishmonger and butchers.

There really is no comparison.

I relocated the opposite direction many many years ago. The plus side is that you're on the outskirts of beautiful countryside and fairly good road/rail transport links with both. And you'd get a lot more for your money than London.

Kettering Town centre is dying and looking a bit run down. The only cinema closed this year. Some of the schools aren't great. You'd have to drive to get anywhere.

I really toyed with the idea of moving back for more space but the above put me off. I guess it depends on what's important. If you like the areas, go for it.
