What colour sink with this kitchen colour way?

The new kitchen will be primarily cashmere but with a 'malbec' island (pretty self explanatory, dark browny red) with oak worktops.

I can't decide what colour sink to get...I had assumed white? Didn't want stainless steel again necessarily. It will be an inset sink with a drainer.

Would white be too stark? Or traditional?

White.

NotableI · 03/02/2026 08:43

I think ceramic white too, it will always look classic.

Would white composite stain easily?

I don't think I'd have an inset sink in a wooden worktop, surely that will be a nightmare to keep maintained?

I don't think that's advisable with oak tops, unless you are all fastidious about wiping up every splash all the time. And oiling regularly of course.
Iroko tops can handle inset sinks, but I think undermount sinks are better with oak.

In terms of colour, what colour are your taps and door hardware?

Would white composite stain easily?

I fill my composite sink with water and washing powder, leave over night and any marks are gone by morning.

Parentingconfusing · 03/02/2026 10:37

Well I would go stainless because ceramic I just don’t find good maintenance wise.

But if I had a team of staff and I really was going for the aesthetics then I would go for a copper sink with dark aged brass hardware.

Parentingconfusing · 03/02/2026 10:38

And absolutely undermount! Always undermount.

Parentingconfusing · 03/02/2026 10:40

Also Malbec to me could be cool or warm toned. Don’t assume red is warm toned. The only true warm is orange and if you think of lipsticks - that’s easier to think of cool and warm reds that way.

If cool then stainless could look really good. If warm toned then copper very cool.

Love the malbec colour @Barrenfieldoffucks! I'd have a white sink with that.

We're in the process of doing our kitchen and our base cabinets are a bit lighter (Edward Bulmer Pompadour). Ours will have brass handles/knobs, iroko worktops, marble splash backs and a huge Belfast sink, but we're going for a very traditional, devol style aesthetic 😉

See that’s actually not warm, nor cool really - that’s neutral. You can see it works with all metal (stainless steel cooker/ brass hardware) and it works with white counter. So the choice is yours!

That’s gorgeous. Something in copper could look cool, no idea about maintenance though.

Or brass to match your handles!

Survivingnotthriving24 · 03/02/2026 16:20

I think you'd get away with any colour sink (not black as that's probably a bit modern in what sounds a traditional kitchen). I'm sorry though, I can't picture your unit choices with the oak worktop!

That's lovely.

This is the sort of combination we have at the moment, the wood worktops look good in reality.

Not cup handles now.

Nice mood board

I think I’d go for white ceramic for the sink but if you have stainless steel fittings ie oven etc then a stainless steel clean cut rectangular sink would look great
Ive put wood and stainless steel together before. Despite the earthy / high tech mix it work.
Taps might need to match aswell to carry the design through

Barrenfieldoffucks · 03/02/2026 21:54

True. I have stainless appliances, but the brass handles etc

Yes, white composite stains really easily. It bleaches off fine but you can’t even poor the dregs of a cup of tea without it making marks.

Wren do a composite sink in a colour they call tartufo:
