Out little house of horrors is bringing down our mood and my partner and I are looking for a little win to make us feel better.

We're looking for something not too difficult but more than stripping wallpaper and painting doors.

I thought maybe tiling the floor of our small entrance area. It's bare concrete at the moment and is no more that one meter square. I don't want any complicated pattern and with some careful measurements and planning I think it should be ok. Partner says we would need to raise the floor slightly with leveling compound but that seems simple enough as long as we calculate the correct volumes.

I guess I'm here for another kick in the backside...I mean if it goes wrong....it's our house isn't it....a hammer and chisel will put it back to how it was.

Good project. Should be easy. You might not even need to level the floor, you might get away with just using lots of adhesive. I would choose tiles which are easy to work with, stone can be hard to cut.

I'd watch some YouTube videos for advice, there are zillions out there and they may mention something useful. Plus it's good to see it done for yourself in advance of having a go.

Go for it! Do check the height under and doors to check they'll still open/close. Also think about edging, do you intend to go under skirting, or have an edging strip?
