Garage door lock

Hi

I am looking to secure my parents garage door from the inside.

The exterior lock works however, they never use their garage door so I would like to secure it from the inside.

Any ideas?

It is to increase outdoor security as sadly there have been thefts from garages.

Preferably, something simple and not expensive.

Thanks 😊

there are loads of options you can buy off the shelf. The simplest is a metal loop bolted into the floor and secured with a decent heavyweight padlock (recommend ABUS brand). But there are loads of proprietary systems if you google.

Even a garage door with a 4-point locking system (catch at each of the four corners) can be easily defeated although they are a step up from the more common type with only 2-points which allows the door to be moved from side to side or just bent up at the corner.

My OH secured the garage doors at both our previous house and this one by adding a decent bolt at each of the inside corners. This means that whatever you do from the outside (short of using a giant tin opener!) you can't force the door. With the locks engaged you can't open it from the outside but we never do anyway. Operating the locks is the work of a moment.
Luckily I agreed with him about the need to made the door a secure as possible.
