Bedroom on same or different floor as DCs - what do you prefer?

We have 3 DCs, aged 7, 4 and 1 and are in the process of buying our next home.

There’s a 4 bed house we like with 3 bedrooms on the first floor and the 4th bedroom on the 2nd floor (loft conversion). We can’t decide whether that’s a good set-up or not.

What do you think is preferable - having our bedroom on the same floor as the kids or on a different floor?

With children that age I’d prefer to be on the same floor. Definitely wouldn’t want to be on a separate floor to the 4 and 1 year old. I’d do either the 7 year old on the 2nd floor or all on the same floor until 7 year old is older and move them up.

I am unbothered by this. But - I live in a city, so this is just a very normal set up! Four bedrooms on one floor would be unusual.

I’d probably want to be on the same floor as a toddler, just because of the likelihood of them wandering around at night / not stable on the stairs.

This wouldn’t bother me, but I’d ensure there was a baby gate at the bottom and top of both sets of stairs.

We’re a floor above our two (7 and 9) which I prefer. Gives us some privacy. I now find the idea of being in bed just the other side of a wall from the kids a bit strange! But of course it’s totally normal, I’m just used to not having to worry too much about waking them up.

We have a master in the loft and two doubles on the middle (plus a box / office - not big enough for a bed). We have a 4.5yo and nearly 2yo. Currently, we all sleep on the middle as I dont like the thought of being on a floor above. DD2 is still in our room for now, but we are thinking the two DDs will share a room on the middle with us, until the eldest is late primary ish and then we'll go up to the loft and they have a big room each on the middle.
