Also posted in AIBU hoping for quick answers. Brother has just bought a new house with a combination microwave oven. The instructions do not say whether he needs to remove the metal shelf/sides when using it as a microwave.
I've never used one so I can't advise him.
Does anyone know?
It's a CDA VK903 in case the model makes any difference.

remove.

google says: Yes, for your CDA VK903 combination microwave, you must remove the metal shelf and drip tray when using the standard microwave function to prevent sparking and damage, as these are only for grilling, browning, or combination cooking, not pure microwave use; always check your manual, but metal is generally a no-go in microwave-only mode, notes CDA Appliances and this Reddit thread.

however google isn’t always right lol so i get his reluctance to follow it but in the meantime til he finds the guidance i would suggest remove them .

my old one always had to have them removed but granted that was ages ago so things may have moved on.
