Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone would be happy to share what they paid for a removal company when moving house?

I'm getting quotes at the moment and the first one has come back much higher than expected and I'm trying to see if that's just the going rate or if they are maybe quoting higher as they don't really want the job 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you are happy to share would be great to know if the price included a packing service.

For anyone who wishes to know what we've been quoted, it's just over £3000 to move from a 1 bedroom apartment, moving approx 40 miles. Not taking all the furniture as will be renting out the apartment and the only thing remotely out of the ordinary is that we have more books than average.

£1500 and that was to move a 4 bed house to a 3 bed house and to storage (we moved into a rental) whilst renovations took place on the house we were buying.
We did have a lot to move - when we moved into our house we brought when renovations were completed we just hired a van from enterprise for 3 days, was much cheaper!!

@MN2025 Thanks for your response.
This does make me think the quote we have is way too high.

Moved twice in recent years (4 & 5 years ago).
4-Bed house with outbuildings (garage, shed, workshop etc).
Proper removal companies (i e. not man in van) although we did all packing and supplied our own materials.
50-mile move first time, 20-mile move second.
First company moved us with one 7.5t lorry, a large van and 5-blokes. Second company used two 7.5t lorries and 7-blokes.
Both cost about £1.2k Inc vat. For comparison, we also got quotes from the national companies (Pickford's, Britannia etc) and they came in at about £3k.

Under £1500. Small, local Yorkshire firm. We moved September 2025.
3 men and 3 large panel vans. One man came and loaded one van the day before we moved then returned the next day with the other 2 men and 2 additional vans. 3 bed house (lots of garden furniture and pots, double garage and outbuildings) to smaller 3 bed house.
We did only move 10 miles but it took all day (waiting for keys). They were fantastic, speedy, efficient workers - worth every penny.

£1600 from a 4 bed to a similarly sized property. But the houses were in the same area, 5 mins apart.

I moved 3 times in 4 years. I used a local really good firm.

The last move was in 2 parts from a 3 bed house to a 2 bed apartment and then onto here (a 2 bed bungalow). It was £900 for one big truck and a smaller one. The key for me was aggressively decluttering from the 3 bed. I also took some bits in my car. I did my own packing and we were moved in hours.

Hiring removals is so worth it. They took apart and put our beds and dining table back together.

Four quotes in Nov 25 for 4 bed to 4 bed but 10 hrs' drive away.
Highest £7.1k lowest £3.9k.
The surveyors giving lowest two quotes also said they were willing to price match/ negotiate a little, as business in January and February is traditionally slow and they wanted to keep their teams and fleet busy.
I would look for more quotes.

Edited

Just checked with DH who actually paid the bill. £1500 was the quote, we actually paid £750 as he only charged for time taken. We did pack ourselves and are very organised 🙄particularly DH.
