What 'big light' light fixture?

Our main kitchen light will not be over our island or kitchen table (we'll have different light sources there) so I'm wondering by what kind of light fixture would be best for the main light that well use fairly rarely, but we'll still need?

hi OP, I’d suggest chatting it through with chat gpt, it’s just helped me do the lighting spec for my whole extension!

Don’t have a big light? We have pendant lighting over the dining table, wall lights, LED lighting under the units, as well as lighting over the island, so we can have any combination on, as ‘background’ lighting.

I’d get rid.

Oh thank you all. Interesting that a few have said don't bother. It's a big enough space so despite having 3 over island, down lights n wall by seating area and under cabinet lights, I'm wondering about needing a 'main light'. Electrician did say he could leave it wired up and put it into the ceiling so could add a fixture later if we think we need it..

We have dimmable spotlights. I think if you have a 'main light' that kind of creates a focal point in a part of the room where you don't need one. We have a pendant over our dining table, but another 'main light' in the middle of the room not over anything in particular would look a bit weird.

Yes OK. This was my feeling. In wondering now if I should go with pendant over table area rather than those almost torches pointing down on the wall.. I like cosy, warm lighting so would rarely turn on a main light. Thanks. I think I'll tell him to tuck the current wiring into ceiling and can always change our mind.
