timber floor joists getting wet????

we have had rain last night and this morning a thunder storm.
My problem is that the timber going to be used for the 1st floor joists are outside uncovered getting wet. Our builder does not seem worried though.
can timber dry out without problems or should I be making a fuss about this?

Depends on its thickness and whether it is solid wood or one of new "engineered" types. If they are standard joists (solid wood, several inches thick) shouldn't do much harm provided they aren't left sitting in rain for few days. They may even have an anti-damp tratment that will help but I would get builder to cover them up if they aren't going to be used soon if they are on ground. If they are in place but building isn't weathertight, it's fine.
