Would you rather have an big bathroom instead of an extra bedroom?

I must have missed the TV program where they recommended that family houses need huge bathrooms at the expensive of bedrooms

Every 2nd set of property details I get has 2 beds 2 baths on the first floor instead of 3 beds 1 bath

Am I the only person who doesn't mind small bathrooms?

I hate huge bathrooms - I like small ones that get very hot!

I'm with you, OP - our house has huge bathrooms, and although we are not short of space generally DH and I both resent the 'wasted' space, although to be fair you can sort of see how they ended up that way, given the limitations of converting an old property. What we would really like is to reclaim half a bathroom to make a walk-in wardrobe but we can't quite work out how to do it .

My builders recently tried to persuade me to make an upstairs bedroom TINY so we could have a bigger bathroom. The wall had to be redone anyway so they said about moving it over a bit to straighten it out but it was all very vague and then when I saw it the new room was like a cell.

I made them move it back, but there was much hissing through teeth and talk of Sarah Beeny always says a bigger bathroom is better in a house this size and they were just thinking of me being able to sell in the future, all while shaking their heads.

They just did not get my point that it was more important for a child to have the room to get undressed next to their bed than it was for us to be able to pirouette around the bath.
They even said they thought our children wouldn't spend much time in their rooms as they'd be hanging about downstairs. I mean wtf?

Small bathroom, big bedroom, definitely. Big bathrooms are always cold, plus there are more uses for an extra bedroom. You can't ask your guests to sleep in the bath, can you?!

I've had a big bathroom in the past and it is an utter waste of space.

One big one I'd love, but endless teeny 'ensuites' irritate me no end. One house we've looked at has FIVE (tiny squashed in) toilets

For a family of four? Um...?!

Quantity, no thanks. But size...I have to confess to a big bathroom fantasy...never had one till very recently (converted loft into one big room plus big bathroom) and love it to bits. Maybe because its the only room in the house that the kids never seem to go into, maybe because I can have an armchair in it, leave clothes lying around, pretend I'll have time to loll in the bath one day and read....

Our house is under offer though, so my big bathroom days are numbered. And I've not seen one single house in our area with a big bathroom, bar one (which needs too much work doing on it to afford).
