Getting a gas fire fitted

We have a chimney but it’s filled in. There’s a recess that currently houses an electric ‘wood burner’. I hate it. I don’t want to rip it all out to open up the chimney again but like the look of a wood burner. Would getting a gas one work? We have gas in the house but I’m guessing a pipe would need to run to it. Where would the flue go? Has anyone had a gas stove fitted?

They would need to out the flue up the chimney I think. Unless it's an exterior wall and then it could just go straight through the wall. This website has some pictures if you scroll down the page. I expect the days of them just venting it into the chimney without a flue are long gone.

So nice been looking into this. It’s going to be tricky to open it all up for gas. So……any recommendations for a decent electric stove?
