Miving this to property and diy forum...

Ive redecorated my downstairs loo but im stuck on what colour to paint the mouldings and coving when I finally add them. They are fairly small sized not huge and not detailed.
Do I go a cream colour or stick with plumb like the tiles. Ive added some photos of my actual room along with chat gpt help. Ignore the plastic on the floor, its to stop the paint getting on it. Ill add a photo of the actual floor in case that helps. Im totally confused and cant decide!! Please help. Id like to get this finished in next couple of days.

Please ignore the brightness of the AI picture for the wallpaper. The wallpaper is as it js in the 1st and real photo ..

White to match the sanitaryware.

Geneticsbunny · 16/12/2025 14:34

Well I hate to say this but I disagree with @PigletJohn. I think the dark plum looks better.

GasPanic · 16/12/2025 14:37

It's hard to see what is AI and what actually exists.

Is the first photo with the wood floor what you have and the second two with the flowery wallpaper what the AI is proposing ?

If so IMO what the AI is proposing with the dark flowery wallpaper is not desirable from many peoples perspectives. I think if you go for that kind of wallpaper you are definitely of the mindset "I like what I want and other peoples opinion doesn't matter". So asking probably isn't a good idea.

If that is a real wood floor in good condition it should always be kept, maybe sanded and varnished in an appropriate colour.

The white tiles if in good condition need a skirting board to run them into the floor or some sort of beading. If the room is half titled then I would go for something like a separator rail with a pastel light colour above. I would always keep good quality tiling if it is well finished grout in good considition etc. Good tiling is expensive like the wood floor. Enhance it as a feature rather than removing it.

IMO interior rooms like toilets without windows tend to be dark and dingy so the last thing you need in them are dark colour schemes. I like them gleaming to match the sanitaryware to give a room that looks very clean and bright.

I think the cornflower blue of the flowers (play around with testers to get the right blue) on the chair rail and skirting would really "elevate" the finish / make it look really polished and expensive

Plum would also look fine / good.
I would not do white, it looks cheap / jarring imo.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 16/12/2025 14:41

Cream if you want the slight splash and lift of brightness.
Plum if you want the moody, drenched look.
Either of them will look beautiful @Mrspinknails . Just choose which look you feel better with.
It's lovely, lovely wallpaper and plum colour. 👌

SparkleSpriteDust · 16/12/2025 14:42

Plum for sure.

LOVE that colour and the wallpaper. I always feel that a downstair loo should be cosy and yours is.

203percent · 16/12/2025 14:43

Cream with the pink ceiling looks best.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 16/12/2025 14:43

...and I'm going to chuck in another option. Find a match to the pale blue in the wallpaper. 🩵

I agree with this.

Giggorata · 16/12/2025 14:48

Plum for me.

SleepingisanArt · 16/12/2025 15:13

As I said on the other thread - match the mouldings to your towel rail and taps.

Edited

I agree with the cornflower blue, and I'd paint the ceiling that colour too.

Strange place to keep the loo roll. Doesn't it get wet? Oh, and white for me!

LibertyLily · 16/12/2025 19:26

Plum definitely. White/cream looks too 'choppy' imo.
