So happy to have two bays in our new house but I don’t know what I’m doing with the windows, we’ve only ever used poles and eyelets ! I would like blinds and curtains, any advice ?

You can buy curtain tracks for bay windows, Dunhelm do them, maybe Argos.

Sillysoggyspaniel · 07/12/2025 19:26

Blinds - pain in the fucking arse. Curtains - easy as pie. Get a Flexi rail on Amazon and fit what you like.

teletubs · 07/12/2025 19:33

There is already a rail up there, and it seems to be a bendable one. What curtains go on these tracks ?

I have bay windows and just have eyelet curtains on a bay curtain pole. If you want to splash out my friend has just had blinds fitted into the pane of her windows on her bay window and looks really nice, cost her £2000 though.

Can you get a pole to go around bays then ? I don’t think we have any room above the windows to put a pole though.

I’ve got a pencil pleated curtains on my bay windows track was already here when we moved in last year. In my last house our bay window tracks were swish brand that I bought.

TootsMaHoots · 07/12/2025 22:55

That’s what I’ve got, a swish bendable track. You just need curtains that don’t have eyelets and curtain hooks. You attach the curtain hooks to the curtain and then hook them on to the little swooshy parts on the track.

Redrosesposies · 07/12/2025 23:00

Pencil pleat curtains on those tracks. Mine are Swish with pull cords so you don't distort the curtains. Mine were installed in 1985 and still going strong.
You can buy them from Dunelm or have some made to measure. I've made plenty of my own.

What lovely windows @teletubs

If you have a John Lewis near you, they will give advice on all sorts of different curtains/blinds for free.

Will give you a quote to fit them but you don't necessarily need to use them.

Hi, thank you ! We don’t have one anymore unfortunately. I’m looking at Dunelm now, they have some lovely curtains. I just don’t know how to measure for them 😆

What lovely windows! I've got a track to the ceiling and french pleated curtains.

To measure I always measure the window (or if like mine the full width of the room) and add a half of the width so that the curtains still look quite full when drawn. I like full length curtains that either end at the floor or puddle.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/12/2025 12:18

I double the width.

I have pencil pleat curtains in my 2 bays. Never found a pole to go round them. Not prepared to fork out for ready made, so get nearest length and get them shortened. You may need more than one set of curtains to get the width.

Blinds cba to pull up 10 blinds morning and night.

Plantation shutters look lovely in a bay window and are good for insulation.

Those red curtains look great, could you just keep them?

... and they go well with the stained glass. But it's your house!

swingingbytheseat · 11/12/2025 22:12

What lovely windows you have !
ikea & Dunelm both do great curtains in really nice colours.
ikea had longer drops than dunelm if you needed, dunelm went up to 250cm

I do need the 250cm drop but can’t find any anywhere !

If you get a 250 drop, surely you'll cover the radiator and won't get the heat into the room?

i know dh pointed this out, just won’t use them whilst the heating is on. They’ll be for more decorative purposes really !

I’ve managed to get some curtains from ikea, 250 drop and 210 width Each panel, the width of the window is 360cm so these will be fine won’t they ?!
