Moving to Malvern maybe

To live closer to family, I'm looking to move to Malvern and I plan on going there for a week in January to explore. In the meantime, I would really appreciate your knowledge of the area.
Natural light is really important to me. Ideally I'd love a view although I might be able to compromise on this!

  1. I've ascertained that West Malvern would be perfect but I am wondering whether it will be gloomy in the winter as the sun is low in the sky and the hills loom behind the houses.
  2. From reading other Mumsnet posts, north Malvern isn't in the shade of the hills, has views and would be closer to facilities. I'm not quite sure where to look here? Is this the whole of Upper Horswell?
  3. I am also considering Poolbrook as it's close to the Commons and getting up on the hills but wondering if this gets shady in the early afternoon!
I am sounding really nerdy but this will be my forever home and I want to get it 'right'! Researching before my visit will be really helpful. Thank you!

I live in Malvern - I’m happy to answer any Qs if you want to send me a message!

We live sort of between Great Malvern and Poolbrook, on the flat before the slopes of the hills start, but not as far down as Poolbrook (trying not to totally out myself!). We have a west facing garden (so looks up to the hills) and the light is fine - we get light well into the evening in the summer.

Personally, I’d never move to West Malvern - driving that road every day would drive me mad because it gets really congested. I’d also get fed up of having to get in the car to go anywhere.

Where will you need to get to - town? Train station? Work? Schools? What’s your budget and what sort of house are you looking for?

You won’t regret moving to Malvern. We moved here five years ago and I wouldn’t be anywhere else now!

I am retired so have total flexiility when I travel. I've got the impression I'll need to drive a lot as the shops are spread out?
I am an avid walker so close to the hills and not having to always drive to them would be a huge bonus.
I am not too fussy about the type of house. I have always lived in Victoria properties. Not keen on new-ish build estate homes as the gardens are small - location is more important, ideally with a view. Budget maximum £400 or less if I need to do work on it to get it how I like.
Close to train station would be very handy but not essential. Town for shopping and cafes.
Thank you for taking the time to reply. I might well dm you with any specific Qs I have.
