North/ south facing house

We've recently moved to a house with north facing front rooms and south facing garden and rear rooms. The rear rooms today are 20 degrees and the north front rooms are 15 degrees (all before the heating turned on). Our last house was also north/south position but smaller. I don’t remember the north rooms there being as cold as this. Does everyone else have a similar variance?

In my favourite house we had a South facing rear but the whole house felt sunny and was the same temperature. However, I really noticed the difference in an apartment we rented with a north facing garden.

We have north facing bedrooms here and they are much colder. We've got french doors virtually the entirety of the back onto the garden and when the sun is out it gets hot.

This is the first time I've had a north/south house and I absolutely hate it. The front bedroom/living room never warms up even with heating and a dehumidifier but the back rooms are better. I still miss my westerly facing previous house as it was mostly equal in temperature and easier to keep warm. And don't get me started on a North facing bathroom 😠

My parents house is like this and the temperature difference is noticeable! The best way to even it out is to leave doors open and have blinds / curtains down on the south side in summer. Sadly my mother insists on keeping them all closed so whoever sleeps in the back bedroom bakes to death!!

I have a south facing frontroom so we hen it’s sunny in winter is lovely but kit/diner with patio doors to garden is north facing but cooking heats room up a bit

South facing windows at the back of the house so dining room and kitchen always quite warm. Front of the house is freezing cold in the winter no sun hits it whatsoever we’re on a very flat road. I’ve just had a carpet fitted and it’s noticeably warmer also put thermal lined curtains windows are very old and were having new ones next year.

This house faces west to east and is deep so there’s a large portion of the day when there’s no sun anywhere anyway. It’s very cold from about 12-4 in the afternoon. I’ve found running a dehumidifier helps a bit. Lovely in the summer of course. But miserable from now till next March.

My south facing lounge looks over the sunny garden. Save a fortune on gas on sunny winter days. Often able to get laundry outdoors, even in winter. Only use dryer during long rainy spells.
