What colour tiles in my kitchen?

We moved about 2 years ago and the kitchen didn't have any tiles or splash back at all.

The kitchen is now next on the list. We arent changing the kitchen but will tile it, take the small fridge away and replace with a wine fridge etc and just generally tidy it all up.

I'm not feeling very inspired so would appreciate your ideas on colour schemes or tile colours etc.

The whippet is also staying 🤣

Thanks!

Just had our kitchen done after moving. We have had glass splashbacks instead of tiling. Easy to clean and looks gorgeous.
I was able to pick a paint colour sample and give it to the kitchen co. The glass company then made the exact shade. It’s a Dulux colour kind of baby blue. Dulux do stick on samples you could compare a few shades.
Grey goes with lots of colours blues, pink, yellow. Lemon would be nice.
If you want tiles I’d go white or light grey.
Whippet is gorgeous.

Mine is sage green-I’ve got textured cream and textured brick tiles

It’s a lovely kitchen! I would go for some lightly decorated delft tiles

I don’t think my link worked… some lightly decorated delft tiles like this: www.marlboroughtiles.com/en-us/shop/classic-delft/corner-motif-11-x-11cm-gloss-glaze-110x110?srsltid=AfmBOopXyx-jSPSf08kaRsS8-XE5CifJtPZ2VyF73SE1cB5A89izDXPjqwk

Glass, definitely.

I'd want to inject a little pattern if it were my kitchen @itsverycold84.

What we did at our last house was clear tempered glass over patterned wallpaper behind the hob and sink. Elsewhere in the fairly large kitchen we kept the walls painted with no splash back or upstands.

Love your whippet ❤️

No advice on the kitchen but your whippet looks just like mine 😁😂

morden123 · 21/11/2025 21:02

I would have turquoise patterned tiles.

Thank you so much for the ideas! I'm having a bit of fun on Chat GPT tonight and have ordered a few samples.

Blue/teal seems to go well.

Patterned are much nicer

I'd go to a few tile places for samples if that's what you're after, chatGPT is quite good at making stuff up for ideas, but you want something that you can actually purchase.
Fwiw a flatter finish is easier to keep clean behind a hob or sink, and have a think about grout choices too. Will you be DIYing or asking a tiler? Consider format of tiles (small/larger) and any edging you'll need as well.

FruAashild · 14/09/2026 14:55

Are you keeping the doors grey or repainting? Repainting will update and frees up your choices. If keeping the grey then (pretty as they are) I wouldn't go with tiles of that shade of blue, I think it's too similar to the grey in dpeth of colour and tone, but depending on your taste there are lots of colours that would work, pink or sage green or red or yellow or burnt orange.

Are the counter tops solid wood or a laminate? If solid wood you could consider sanding back and restaining and reoiling to give you a colour that goes better with the grey (or whatever colour you choose to repaint to).

Tiles are the least easy to change thing, so they should be the most classic. White subway tiles with white grout.
Same with flooring, it's expensive and hard to replace so you have to go neutral.
In the easier to replace items, like paint and lighting, you can go with whatever you want.
See Maria Killam on this.

You will not be sick of these in 30 years, once styles have changed and you have perhaps changed the cabinet fronts and hardware.
