Does this only apply to the tenants not being able to have a resident pet? I am wondering if landlords would agree to visitor to bringing a well behaved dog.

I’m a landlady and have no problem with my tenant having the family pet visit/stay over. I’ve met the dog and he’s adorable. As for being forced to accept tenants with dogs as per Labour are wanting, that’s different. Some owners aren’t responsible and some dogs are vandals. I’m afraid if this law comes in the bond will go up significantly.

By bond, do you mean the deposit? It won’t go up because that would be illegal - rental deposits are capped by law and most landlords already charge the maximum.

I wish the bond would go up in exchange for allowing pets

They used to charge a higher bond for that.

You'd have to make good any damage done by a visiting dog, but otherwise I can't think the LL would mind. Resident dogs can lead to smelly carpets and so on but a couple of days wouldn't have that effect.

Thank you for this, it’s good to hear.

Whenever I’ve rented and no pets allowed I’ve never even questioned a visitors dog. We even looked after them for several days in the house. I can’t imagine any ll having an issue with it.
