Thoughts on Loughton?

Hi there,

We are looking to buy next year and interested in the Loughton area. We previously lived in Wanstead (sadly we cannot afford here) and like loughton for its proximity to the forest. We are looking to start a family in the next few years so need to think about nurseries/primary schools but will likely move further out for more space before secondary school.

I would love to know how people find living in Loughton? As a woman do you feel safe walking home from the tube at night? Is it a nice place to be on maternity leave? Are the nurseries good?

Thanks in advance!

Have you got any other suggestions for better places but in this general (north ABC east side of London but commutable) area please?

I'm sorry, I can't help, but I thought this was going to be another baby name thread 😂

what do you feel is wrong with it now?

I agree it's not as nice as it used to be but nowhere is as nice as it used to be

I still think it's pretty nice, though

I recommend Theydon Bois and Epping but if anyone is using the tube, I think it often stops at Loughton. I don't know about nurseries, but my friends are happy with the local schools in the district generally, not Loughton specifically.

The crime in Loughton is so bad now, I wouldn’t go out alone in the dark, but nowhere is particularly safe or nice anymore, Theydon is lovely but expensive, abridge nice but tiny like TB, ongar nice not as nice as it used to be, coopersale ok but again small. Loughton isn’t like living in the ghetto but I wouldn’t want to live there, lots of anti social behaviour in cars and drug dealing.

@loveteandcake are you thinking of the side more towards Debden Tube?

I don't go out much in the eveningthese days, but the impression I'm under is that while things have changed a bit, other areas are much worse.
