How much do windows cost?

Anyone care to share how much their windows cost per window?

we are thinking of buying a property that will need the windows replaced asap. Hard to get a quote when you don’t own the house! We will be maxing ourselves out buying the house, which has grim bathroom we will just have to live with while we save but the windows won’t be air so I need to be realistic if we can afford it :-/

Some are normal size and already double glazed so we would just be replacing those however there are a couple full length ones that I think are single glazed in Wooden frames so rotten there are gaps.

If I estimate £700 per normal size window and £1200 for the full length ones is this realistic?

We had all double glazed units in our house replaced , existing hard wood frames were in good condition. Cost £6.5k total for units , other parts and labour. He repaired a few astragal bars and replaced the window hinges (casement windows) as part of the job. I am in rural Scotland.

22 double glazed units in total.

If you can measure the windows or even a good guess you can ring up a double glazing manufacturer and get a quote.
There will be fitting on top.
For wooden double glazed windows you’d have to ask a joinery company for bespoke ones or ask a builders merchant for a catalogue and then when you’ve chosen the size and style ask for a price

3200 quote for a large bay window plus vat

If you just change the glass rather than the whole frame it's much cheaper. We had a lot of moisture as the seal had gone. I think it cost about £1,800 for a mix of windows maybe 14 in total.

Lots of online "supply only" double glazed windows will give you an idea of the cost of materials.

We went with a local company who have been trading for 40 years and made their own windows, no middle man, their cost to supply and fit was just a bit more expensive than all my online research quotes. It was a while ago so probably totally different now.

If the online company wants you to supply an email address there are temporary email address generators you can use that mean you can see the price without being bombarded later. I also use a fake phone number but not one that might belong to someone, more like 01234 567890.

We replaced several old aluminium framed double glazed windows and put in UPVC sash windows (period property). In total we had 9 windows replaced (6 of them were in bays) and it cost £15k.

Our windows were replaced this week and it was something like 13000 for 13 windows as it was cheaper to do a lot at once. Each window pane counts as a window so our lounge window counted as 4 as it is 3 across and then to the floor in the middle.

Around £800 per window depending on size.
we had ours done 3 at a time over about 18 months.
