Crowborough, Sussex

We are thinking of moving in the next 5 or so years. We are currently thinking Crowborough looks like a nice area to move to. What do you think about Crowborough and are there other places, easy commute into London where you can get a nice detached house with a little bit of land eg 0.5 acres or slightly less sounding it?

You might want to look at the news for the latest update on crowborough.

Personally, I don't like crowborough. It's overpriced and has no real high street. If you go one stop up on the train line you have the gorgeous country village of buxted. Lovely walks and a short distance from Uckfield which has a really good high street.

We only went once so it's unfair to take my word on it, but the fact that we never felt inclined to go again might say something.

How about Hurstpierpoint? It's just next to Hassocks with its train connections to London and Brighton?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 29/10/2025 07:16

There is only 1 train a hour which surprised me when I visited friends there.

And they are unreliable. You quite often have to drive to Tunbridge Wells and get the train from there as it's a different operator.

They are housing all the immigrants there in army barracks. Loads of them.

LeafyMcLeafFace · 29/10/2025 18:31

ALL the immigrants?

They also have broadmoor.

Headsnorthsouth · 29/10/2025 18:48

Broadmoor? Isn't that in Berkshire?

Uckfield has some nice affordable properties. Hurstpierpoint seems to have less space for the same price.

I live in Crowborough unfortunately. The news about the barracks coupled with the useless high street and terrible public transport, lack of police presence and difficulties accessing either a GP or dentist has me wishing I could move.

It's rather a disjointed place with the station a long way down the hill from the centre which, as pps have said, doesn't have much. It's all right, some pretty country round about,I'd look at other possibilities first.

You'll typically get what you pay for. We don't know your budget but it should be sufficient if you're looking at half acre properties in Sussex! But if you have champagne tastes on a beer budget then ...........
