Deciding on Paint colour, is Dulux Timeless Yellow?

Omg, since deciding to refresh & paint in the house, well the lounge, hallway & going up the stairs, I didn’t think it would be this much of a headache to choose a bloody off white paint colour!

After spending a small fortune on samples I declared to my husband I 100% want Dulux Timeless, he’s exhausted as a firm PBW fan, which is what is on the walls at the moment. The Timless patches on the wall look nice. DH show me a pic of where he works & said he fears it will turn out like that - yellow walls. I said no it won’t & showed him the patches on the walls.

So I’ve just used ChatGPT thingy & asked them to show me Timeless on my walls & they’ve come up yellow, like yellow yellow. I understand it can’t be an accurate representation, but it’s putting doubts in my mind, again. When I used the Dulux visualiser is showed Timless as light blue! I told my DH this morning I was 1000% sure I want Timeless, now I got doubts, hes going to just cancel the decorator & paint it PBW himself! The only other alternative i have in mind is the Dulux trade vinyl Matt in white. ceilings will be done in white/pbw. Pic shows part of the wall what ChatGPT showed.

My parents south facing kitchen is timeless and it looks white with a tiny blue tint if that’s any help. There’s no yellow in it.

MistyMountainTop · 26/10/2025 08:19

It depends on the sun, but it's certainly not yellow in my house. It's bright, soft white in a north-east room and white with no undertones in a West facing room. It has more of a greyish white tint in an internal room that doesn't get much direct sunlight. It's certainly whiter than magnolia which the rooms were painted before we moved in.

I think because we’ve had PBW for a good few years it’s hard to imagine anything else & I’d really like it to be a different shade but just apprehensive that it’s not going to turn out right. Would anyone mind showing their Timeless walls please?

I painted everywhere in timeless. In a room that gets a lot of sun, it’s very cream.

the rest of the rooms are ok but I wish I’d just gone for pbw.

im very fussy though. Everyone else who has seen it says it looks fine!

can’t upload pics as I’m away at the moment.

GoldGold · 26/10/2025 08:40

I had it painted in one room which was south facing and it came up too cream for my liking. It did have a yellow tint to it but definitely not as yellow as the photo you have uploaded. I would say the test patch in your room is more reliable. Look at it in different times of day too. A lot will depend on the lighting, natural
light and whatever fixtures, bulbs etc you use.

Notmyreality · 26/10/2025 08:46

Timeless is just off white. It will look white. You will only notice it isn’t PBW if you paint something PBW next to it,
which will look brighter. Other than that everyone including you will think it’s just white.

Advocodo · 26/10/2025 08:52

I have just recently painted my fairly bright hallway and landing in Timeless and it’s definitely not yellow. I don’t think’ you need to worry at all. I do agree with you though it’s a nightmare trying to choose an alternative to PBW.

Keepit100 · 26/10/2025 09:01

It’s lovely in my SF living room

Bluebird12 · 26/10/2025 09:05

It’s my go to colour where I want a white that is not stark and a bit warming. Never considered it to be yellow.

WimpoleHat · 26/10/2025 09:06

It’s not very bright this morning - but this is the top of a Timeless wall with a white ceiling. It is just off white and definitely not cream or yellow.

i bet you won’t be able to see much difference from white walls, to be totally honest.

potato08 · 26/10/2025 09:10

We have it everywhere.
It's not yellow.

We had it in our hall and it looked white. DD has it with pink in her living room and it looks yellow.

FrenchBunionSoup · 26/10/2025 09:13

It's definitely cool white, like the colour of salt. Egyptian Cotton is a warmer, creamier version without being Magnolia - Timeless doesn't have any yellow.

Timeforabitofpeace · 26/10/2025 09:18

Yes, definitely blue or grey. I foolishly painted an item in it to go in a room which was a warm white (brown hint, if anything) and it stood out badly. It put me off the colour.

baddecisionsmakegreatcompany · 26/10/2025 09:21

It’s not yellow agree with PP it’s an Off white and the accents depend on the light and the other colours in the room

Smallinthesmoke · 26/10/2025 09:22

My experience is that Timeless wasn't yellow looking. I found it a good neutral and would use again ...

ghostofadog · 26/10/2025 09:31

Timeless is a slightly warm white, we have it in our kitchen diner which is north facing - it looks white but not cold. Pic attached. We also have it in a south facing room, there it looks very slightly more creamy but definitely not yellow. I think it's a really good colour of off white. I spent ages choosing as well, very difficult! The other off white we have used is Orchid White, we have this in our north facing bedroom and it's nice and warm but still fresh, definitely has more yellow in it than timeless though.

We have it everywhere and def not yellow. It's a soft white.

seeyouyesterday · 26/10/2025 10:59

Thanks for the replies. Looking at your pics, it looks just how I want it to look. We're painting the whole living room (apart from ceiling & woodwork) in it so it will be on all four walls and the hallway, which is only very small anyway and going up the stairs and landing, the stairs, no natural light but the landing yes.

I'm okay with PBW, I can live with it as I have been for years, but it just gets so grubby, esp in the hallway and stairs and that's using the tough & washable stuff. I just thought having a slightly off white colour would make it a bit warmer and not so just white all the time, iukwim? I did think of maybe using just a white instead of PBW, so I found Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt in white and apparently that is obviously not as bright as PBW (the ceilings will be PBW - so there should be tell tale difference) so that could be just what I want, DH is leaning more towards this. His head is spinning as I keep changing my mind. Perhaps that's giving me the answer I need?

We have a lot of Timeless. I think it takes on what’s around it. In the living room, which is shadey, it’s above the dado, with blue/grey below and it looks a cool bluey white. In our bedroom, which is sunnier with lots of pine furniture, its a warmer white, with a touch of beige. No yellow tones anywhere.

Here it is with a pbw ceiling in our bedroom just now, cloudy day.

What is PWB please?

LibertyLily · 27/10/2025 10:14

@pasanda I'm guessing it's Pure Brilliant White, although my immediate thought was Plain Boring White lol!

Never really used white paint before - although am about to buy some Farrow & Ball off-white for a ceiling, so nothing useful to add on Timeless other than it looks very much like PBW.

Sunnyside4 · 27/10/2025 13:17

We've got Dulux satinwood in Timeless on our skirting boards.

The first photo is in a bright room with sun on it, the second in a dark north facing room. The walls are Ivory (not a Dulux paint).
