Bedroom curtain rail is rusty

Is this a bad sign around damp? Just bought new house and taking the curtains down, noticed that the main bedroom curtain rail is rusty. Does this suggest that there is a damp problem in the room?

Checked the plaster near the curtain rail and there are some cracks and some soft bits.

Did you have a survey, and was any structural damp picked up? It’s not necessarily damp, and may well just be caused by condensation: if the previous owners slept with the windows closed and didn’t adequately ventilate the bedroom, moisture will have built up causing corrosion to the metal and affecting the plaster and paintwork around the windows. You may need to scrape the loose plaster, refill, seal, paint, and then just ensure airflow going forward.

This is very soothing, thank you! No damp picked up on survey so was a bit like oh shit. But also no smell of damp. Will definitely ventilate properly and see how it goes - scraping out and refilling all sounds doable

I agree with the previous poster. I would assume condensation.

Our kitchen one is rusty too, you can use limescale remover on it to remove rust! And then pledge to seal
