Selling a property

Help! Want to sell property in high rise. 80 odd flats and 79 are great. One council tenant has been sent to prison for 2 years. Does this have to be declared when selling? It’s impossible to know the ins and outs of people’s lives in such a large building. Thanks.

I'm confused as to why you think you would have to declare that someone living nearby has been sent to prison? You definitely don't. You need to declare if you are in dispute with any neighbours, but not their personal affairs. Obviously if the crime was reported in the news a buyer may find out anyway but it's not on you to tell them.

Thank you! That’s my understanding too but when I googled it the advice was so confusing.

Maybe if you know of trouble this person has caused in the building you should mention it, but not otherwise. You can't possibly know what 79 sets of neighbours have been up to. Good luck with the sale.

Thank you! I just wondered as read so much about what has/has not to be disclosed.

Is the flat in a prison?

Is the flat in a prison?

Lol, no but I am a chronic overthinker/worrier

I’d be more concerned about cladding personally.

No, you don’t have to declare that any neighbour has been to prison unless you have had a dispute with them.

There is no cladding on the building

No I didn’t directly, just expressed my concerns to council
