B&Q “Worst Case Scenario” bathroom quote

Hello,
I’ve been designing a bathroom with B&Q and, after the installer visited, the installation quote has shot up massively (by more than £2000).
They have said it is the “worst case scenario” as they don’t know what work will be needed to the walls when the current panelling comes down, and they’d rather charge more and pay me back than have to ask for more money half way through the refit.
Has anyone had a similar experience with B&Q? I’d love to know if anyone actually does get money back as I am highly sceptical.
Thanks!

cant see you ever getting money back, surely be easier to charge you more as and when needed

Have you checked reviews? I’ve heard nothing but horror stories about b&q (and wicked).

Honestly I would find a rally good local place that is owned by the person doing the works (not a b&q employee who is being paid minimum wage).

A local place who needs to keep repeat customers and wants to keep a good local reputation will be far, far better.

We had my parents’ downstairs bathroom completely redone with B&Q, it cost £6k three years ago. Everything out, retiled walls and floor, new toilet sink and walk in shower. They did a great job and the fitter was really good. We are in S Wales, I imagine they will be different all over the country.

You could ask them for references from previous customers? If they are proud of their record they might be willing to share that?

Thanks all. I’ve got a couple of independent bathroom fitters coming round now to get some quotes to see how they compare.

Where in the country are you? We had a great independent company do ours and would happily give a recommendation.
