When we bought our house, we bought buildings only insurance where they were only interested in subsidence in the previous 10 years. Our house has a historic claim (1986) where they received compensation from the coal authority - however no remediation work was ever carried out. From what i know, many people in the local area took the coal authority money and had holidays or bought new cars!
I've been reviewing insurance today, our provider changed and it looks like the new provider will not cover any where with issues of subsidence no matter how historic. Are we faced with only using a specialist provider now? I know when we bought there were a couple of different insurance companies that would still cover as long as it was more than a decade ago.
