Cleaning banisters/walls?

Hi

Looking for tips on how to clean painted banisters which look scruffy post some building work. Walls not great with fingerprints. How can I clean these without causing any damage?

Biological washing powder dissolved in warm to hot water. I'd use about a tablespoon of powder in a standard size bucket (quite a weak solution) so as not to leave any streaks/residue.

@LindorDoubleChoc love your name! so would this be for the walls or banisters? Someone mentioned baby wipes! I just dont want to mess it all up!

sugar soap?

@TMMC1 doesn't that damage walls?

Property developing a Victorian mansion house atm. It is disgustingly unclean with ground in stains. The house of horrors. Tackling all areas with white vinegar plus sugar soap. Get a decent scrubbing brush and possibly a steamer as well. Good luck.

@SandStormNorm yikes! how are you doing walls?

its hard to damage walls but you may need to repaint

I am back to the brick work in most rooms. The wallpaper and plaster was really beyond help so was relocated to skips, along with all flooring materials. This is a former hotel, and it was quite beautiful back in the day. However, now it just looks like a derelict wreck inside. I have spent 2 years doing the major repairs (mostly externally in the grounds), and now I can ignore the horrors within no more. Very hard work, on top of running a holiday let company while being ill myself...but worth it in the end!
