I was in the process of buying a property and close to exchange. My solicitor was waiting on a few remaining replies.
I knew the house had some damp issues but, having viewed it in summer when it was freshly painted, it seemed fine. The vendor claimed he had a tenant with kids who had lived there for years without problems, so I wasn’t too worried.
When I revisited on Friday, the downstairs walls were visibly wet, and I decided to pull out — the damp was worse than expected. I was ready for a bit of cosmetic work, loft insulation and chimney removal but not that level of damp.
Yes it’s frustrating to be in this process but I was kind and apologetic in my email pulling out.
The vendor later emailed back saying he regrets trying to “help me buy the house with my limited budget “
Bear in mind this property is in cotteridge Birmingham and I offered 200k.
Throughout this process he has tried to ridicule me referring to me as a charity case, repeatedly telling me he is doing me a favour. I have been taking the condescending remarks because I liked the property, but I am SO glad I withdrew.
I now see why buyers and sellers shouldn’t deal directly.
