Good Smoke Alarms

Hi Everyone,

I have a new build townhouse which has 8 hardwired GL-P101 smoke detectors plus a heat/co detector. They’ve been notoriously unreliable since moving in- we had a few replaced under warranty but another 2 are acting up now. I have OCD/PTSD and the constant false activations are really getting to me. We’ve tried changing batteries/hoovering out etc… but I suspect they’re just a dodgy brand!

I want to switch them all out so can anyone recommend a decent make of hardwired/interlinked smoke alarms with minimal false activations?

thank you!

The detector heads might just need repositioning. eg. too close to bathroom = steam from shower activating them, or too close to kitchen = cooking fumes activating them.

Might be worth getting in touch with your local fire service for advice (free) before you start forking out for replacement equipment.

We have Apollo Alarmsense Optical Smoke Detectors and have had no trouble with them. They are a commercial system though so you need a qualified installer and a central control board. On the plus side - that means no annoying glowing lights!
