Renting property for a few weeks after its sold

My house has been bought by an investor who buys properties to rent back to the local authority. My onward property has been rented out for a number of years and needs new flooring/doors bathroom etc. I know I need to ask the buyers, but is it possible to rent my current home for a few weeks to give me breathing space to get the new house ready? I just didn’t know if it is a thing or not?

thank you!

You'd have to ask the buyer but generally no, you exchange contracts to give vacant possession.
Lots of people have to live in their homes while they work on them or raise funds for next project etc.

And short term lettings are even harder than they used to be.

You could look at staying in an Airbnb for a few weeks if needed - ask the host for a discount

Fair enough, thanks for letting me know. Would be cheaper to just move and get it done around us too!

We could stay with family as the new house has a big garage to store things or like you say an Airbnb is an option too. Thank you!

you could always ask, but not really a thing no.

You can't start work on the new house until you own it, otherwise if the sale falls through, the seller could end up with a huge loss. So even if you rent it you couldn't start any refurbing.
