Hi ladies,
I'm looking at a pre 1900s apartment to buy in an old tudor-style house. I noticed these patterns on the ceiling in some of the rooms but not all. I'm trying to work out if it's artex or just a bad paint / roller job as some of the patterns feel very random and inconsistent, particularly the bathroom as pictured (tried to zoom and crop as the patterns are quite subtle and light). Would love any povs on this please! Thanks in advance x

Looks like artex to me. Easy enough to get ceilings skimmed as/when you redecorate. I've got some still in the main bedroom and hall, landing & stairs.

Could be. In that age of house it could be anaglypta.

The bathroom looks like it's bubblings due to condensation/poor ventilation. Doesn't look artexed. However, the bedroom definitely is, that's a pattern I recognise, lol. Yes, both can be scraped and skimmed.

Artex stippling effect is more stippled. ie the design is more raised.

It could be artex under several layers of paint which is why it’s less defined
It could equally be a wood chip wallpaper if you can spot any joins

Without getting it tested for asbestos I wouldn’t scrape it or try to remove it. Better to skim over.
