MDF smell in drawers

Please can anyone advise how to get rid of MDF-smell in a bespoke built in wardrobe? Especially the drawers are so bad we stopped putting clothes in there. It’s a year old and still smells really awful.. I thought it was the paint but now I think it’s the MDF. (Paint is Little Greene)

It is a kids bedroom, so would prefer non-toxic… I know the MDF might not have been the best choice for that…. Hindsight and all that…
it was very expensive too to have it built in…
Thanks very much for your help

old fashioned scented drawer liners? You used to get them on rolls from places like M and S, I think.

Thank you, good idea.. I will give that a go. My worry would be that it will just mix the smell with another smell as it is really strong and off putting..

Unfortunately, if the smell is coming from the MDF composition, I can't think of another solution, except maybe Febreze, which will be short lived.

I put unwrapped Dove soap bars in my wardrobe and drawers. They work a treat.

Thanks @GenerousGardenerWill try that too

We had cupboard made from mdf and it gave off funny smells. Air purifier in it/ opposite it with doors open for a couple of weeks cleared it all up. Made sure we had carbon filter in it.

Update: I’ve had drawer liners in there now for over a week and it’s still this really awful smell mixed with the nice smell :( what do I do? Is this normal? It was so expensive to build, otherwise I would replace the drawers!
