Curtains you can’t wash

I need curtains for several windows. They are very tall and wide, so curtains will have to be custom made and since it’s a considerable investment, I want to get it right! I want linen curtains with blackout lining. They ones I found can’t be washed because the main fabric and lining could shrink differently. They need to be hoovered and spot cleaned.

Does anyone have curtains like this? Is it ok, or do they become horribly dusty? I’ve only ever had unlined linen curtains (with external blinds closed at night) and I washed them regularly. It just feels strange to not do this!

Maybe you could steam clean them

Many curtains are dry clean! Who washes large curtains? What size washing machine would you need? A industrial one. Use a soft brush on the vacuum cleaner to dust them. I’ve never washed curtains. They have also not needed it. What could happen to them?

I've never washed a curtain..... Why would you need too?

I don’t think they can be dry cleaned either… Indeed, I didn’t think about the size of the washing machine @TizerorFizz :) A laundrette maybe!

I meant dust mainly really because I’ve never hoovered curtains, mine were washed without a problem (unlined so much less volume). Good to know it works well!

Yes. A decent brush attachment and not too much suck or the fabric gets sucked in! I would go for a dry clean fabric. Spot clean is a faff but cleaning curtains in a washing machine is not something I’ve done.
