Hi all,

We are looking at doing a single storey extension (5x3m roughly) with a new kitchen (DIY kitchen or Howdens). Looking at trying to do as cheaply as possible but wanting to not spend more than 50-70k. Speaking to a couple of local builders/ architects they suggest that is very tight…

I was wondering if others have experience of extensions that are similar and how much they spent? As well as any architect/ builder recommendations!

I am in Surrey not so far from you and am planning a similar project. I had guesstimated about £85k and from the first 2 quotes, that was way below the mark. I can get the building work done in my budget, but the interior fittings (kitchen etc) will be on top.

I have also found that I’ll be waiting at least 6 months even to start work once the planning is approved. Despite the economy there seems to be no shortage of work for builders around these parts!

We used home tales for ours who were really helpful with explaining costs and working with our budget, I think you'd be looking at the upper end of yours with building prices
