Potential neighbour from hell?

We are househunting at the moment (family of four). Our area is very expensive for even the most bog standard 3 bed semi's and it's proving very difficult to find anything we like that's affordable.

Today I saw a property that ticked all our boxes. Needing renovation but perfect location, private and quiet road, lovely original features, a large garden etc. Priced keenly. I got quite excited!

But...while viewing the property on the outside the next door neighbour came out and told me off quite aggressively for looking down what looked like a shared side passage saying that it was private property. It wasn't at all obvious that it wasn't shared (even the agent wasn't sure!). He came across as a bit unhinged.

It gave me a bit of a shock really. I haven't had problems with neighbours ever in our current location!

I know I need to walk away from this house. It would be nothing but torment living next to this guy. It's just so disappointing as I could really see myself living there!

Option 1: Run don't walk
Option 2: Maybe he was just having a bad day

Sorry, you must be gutted.

Poor sellers 😬

What do you mean by 'looking down the passage'?

If someone was wandering through my garden/property etc... I would tell them to bugger off too. If the house is for sale and the EA is thinking its part of the property and letting people wander all over then its probably not the first time they have had to tell people to get off their property either.

I mean I suppose you've nothing to lose by knocking on his door and asking if he was having a bad day 😜 If he comes to the door softly stroking a kitten and apologises, all systems go!!! But wear a bulletproof vest just in case!!!!!!

There's a small gap between the two houses and a pedestrian gate connecting both. The garden wall in the driveway runs right down the middle of the line of this and stops a foot or so before the gate. I was at the garden wall looking down the side. Technically I wasn't on his property!

It was an open view with a few people there, I just find it hard to understand why he was so unpleasant.

Well I don’t know. Would he be enough to have put other people off bidding on the house and would that mean you could get the house for a better price? I could definitely ignore some miserable bastard next door. Much rather that than really noisy people or terrible parking wars.
