Socket on fused spur

TheCaptainsLog · 29/08/2025 12:35

Our dishwasher is on its own fused spur. The current socket is faulty and needs to be replaced. The socket itself is unswitched; there is a separate switch on the wall.

The problem is that none of my local DIY shops have an unswitched socket in stock. If I've understood correctly what I've read on the interweb it should be acceptable to put a switched socket there, but can anyone confirm this?

Otherwise it's a case of ordering and waiting for one to arrive next week, whereas I could be getting on with it this afternoon.

Whereabouts do you live ?

Screwfix, B&Q and the like all do this sort of stuff and screwfix have about 1000 stores countrywide so unless you live on a remote island somewhere ...

Order one for next day delivery is your only option (unless you can get to Screwfix/B&Q)

Nearest branch of B&Q is (predictably) out of stock, I also stopped by at Wickes in Manchester on my way here which doesn't sell them at all.

This is my MIL's place, small village in East Lancs, and I'm not going to be able to get back until next Saturday. I've put the switched socket in and it all works fine.
