Are you selling furniture beforehand?

It depends on the timescale between exchange and completion. If you’re close to exchange, you could get some quotes, but make sure they aren’t quoting for furniture you won’t be taking.

When you have proposed dates you can make a commitment.

It’s horrible isn’t it. I’m selling my parents property, they both sadly died, and as only child and executor of their wills have cleared so much stuff. Due to exchange contracts mid September. Have got house clearance booked early September. They quoted last week.

Even if the sale falls through my thoughts are that the stuff we can’t physically break up to put in a skip will need to go anyway. My advice is shop around and get quotes. Then book them asap after exchange. My buyers are having some of the furniture, so I made sure not to include items when I got quotes.

Im trying to sell furniture ive reduced and reduced its still not selling. The conveyancing solicitors im having to chase they are not helpful. Ive signed a form which the buyer has to pay a charge if they change moving dates however no moving dates been set. I dont think this is the completion?? I have no date to move. If I call a removal company the house is full of furniture I dont need. I need the money from it house clearances dont want it. Im struggling moving on my own with no one to help. My new house not ready yet its a newbuild. Im relocating and need to hand my notice in then i have no income . Ive recently divorced my ex owes me a great deal of money if he gave me the money i he legally owes i would happily just give my furniture away but im struggling and need the money.

I am in the process of downsizing and needed to offload furniture and white goods. Told the removers who were doing quotes what stuff was being off loaded and not to include. I did significantly declutter prior to putting the house on the market. Got quotes in at the three month mark - it took 2/3 weeks to get the quotes in as found the estimator is quite booked up in advance.

OP, I think the biggest thing you need to clarify is your legal position wrt what you have signed, and how that relates to your moving date.

As you are buying a new build it sounds as if you have possibly signed up for a ‘long stop’ completion date.

Your Estate Agent selling your current house might be able to help in getting an update from your solicitor.

I hope you have a proper EA and solicitor, not Purple Bricks?
