Something like this? There are direct trains to Euston from Lichfield Trent Valley station, some of which are straight through & only take around 1hr 20.

I live near Newark on Trent. 1.5 hrs to Kings Cross, sometimes faster. Plenty of 4 bed houses for £300K and it’s a nice market town with lots of history, independent shops, lovely market. Easy to get the train to Nottingham or Lincoln for more variety

What facilities would you like Op?

Profhilodisaster · 07/08/2025 21:04

Do you want modern or period?
Heybridge, Danbury, South Woodham Ferres , Maldon , Finchingfield are all easy to get to London and Colchester from.

Honestly i am open.

I dont mind anything :)

Thank you everyone so far.

Lovely suggestions

Trains to Colchester are on the Liverpool Street line, Ingatestone is really nice, it has a station, trains to London take about half an hour and same to Colchester.

Anywhere on the Norwich to London train line? Diss? It’s quite a wide brief really - you probably need to narrow it down a bit. What amenities would you like nearby?

sritz · 07/08/2025 21:14

Easy access to London and Colchester from Diss( it's a small Norfolk town), there’s also nice surrounding villages within easy reach of the train station

Or Stamford (a bit pricey) but lovely town, or Bourne. Station in Peterborough or Grantham.

Frinton on sea 😬. Easy journey to Colchester. A relative has moved there and it has a great community, loads going on and a perfect high street with everything you could possibly need, great restaurants and you can walk by the sea every day.

Frinton is lovely, expensive though if you live 'within the gates' . Walton is just down the road and a bit cheaper.
